Dear Members,
We will be taking applications online between 1st - 10th March during which the application form will be made available on the sail training website (link below). Each child may only enrol in one course. Please be aware that if your application is made after this period then you will be placed on a reserve list.

Briefings and boat checks: Sunday 23rd July, from 2pm
Sailing Days: Monday 24th July - Saturday 29th July

Prices: Prices are per child. We offer subsidized prices for those that live locally, educate their children in a local state school and request that they need the subsidy.
Stage 1: £150
Stage 2 and 3 and 4: £240
Start Racing and Improve Your Racing: £240
Seamanship Skills and Assistant Instructor: £240
The trainee Assistant Instructor course will be 20 hours training, over 3 days before Sail Training begins on the Sunday, 23rd July: The course begins on Thursday 20th July - 4pm (Theory Only), Friday and Saturday 21/22nd July - Full Days (Water and Theory), Sunday 31 July - AM Only (Water and Theory). All applicants must have completed Stage 4 and Seamanship Skills and be age 16 by 20th July 2023.
Timetable:
We will try and run the same timetable as we did last year with most courses being divided into A and B making smaller teaching groups. For those wishing to race, Start Racing will be Monday - Wednesday, Improve Your Racing will be Thursday - Saturday, subject to change depending on demand, instructor and boat availability!
Instructors:
If you would like to be involved in Sail Training 2023 please contact Nick Williams directly nickwilliams.uk91@gmail.com or 07704 422548. As before, those who make contact well in advance will likely be given priority over latecomers.
Volunteers and Boat Loans:
As ever, we rely on both those generous enough to volunteer their time and their boats (wayfarers, fevas and RS 2000s/L2Ks) to BSSC / Sail Training week. All families of applicants are expected to offer some time, which we capture in the application form, otherwise please get in touch. We will try to confirm volunteer duties in early July if not before.
Safety boat refresher courses:
We hope to run refresher courses for all volunteer and instructor safety boat drivers on the morning tides of Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd or Sunday 23rd July. Please give Nick an indication of which tide might suit you.
Participant places are NOT allocated on a first come first served basis. Applications will only be reviewed after the 10th March. Please make sure you have read and understood the following before making an application for your child.
1. There are minimum recommended age limits for all courses. See individual course pages for details.
2. For stage 3 and above, parents and children need to understand that merely completing a course one year and then enrolling on the next RYA stage the following summer with no practice in between is not sufficient. Copies of the child's log book may be requested in order to be accepted on to the higher end courses. Children must provide their own Topper in good working order. We will not allow toppers on the water if they are not fit for purpose (see topper preparation guide under the course information page).
3. We hope to be running Improve Your Racing again (a non RYA course) which is aimed at those that have completed the Start Racing course in a previous year, done some further independent sailing and competed in a BSSC sailing week or equivalent. Children may apply to do either Start Racing OR Improve Your Racing but not both. Recommended age 12 plus.
Responses:
We intend to get back to all applicants by the end of April. Please note that following the offer of a place on a course, full payment (online only) is required within 2 weeks to secure your place.
All enquiries should be made to Georgie Child at bsscsailtraining@yahoo.co.uk
Many best wishes from Georgie, Rob, Nick and Tim
