Hawk 20
B.S.S.C. Hawk 20
BSSC has an active fleet of some 26 Hawks, enjoying a varied programme of competitive racing and local cruising. All the current club boats are of the Hawk 20 Day Boat design.
Sailed by a number of former dinghy racers, the racing section is active, average turnouts are about 10 12 boats, with the maximum ever achieved of 24 boats in 2018, on the 20th Anniversary of the Hawk in Brancaster Harbour. Possibly the largest Hawk racing fleet ever assembled! The racing programme is varied and includes a principal Hawk weekend and a several specific cup races and of course Sailing Week in August.
With access to the sea, Brancaster Harbour is an excellent cruising area, where families can cruise around the varied creeks and channels and the more adventurous make voyages to nearby local harbours.
Throughout the season there are several fleet social events and also a programme of social weekday cruises included in the programme.
The Hawk is family friendly for cruising, is stable but lively in strong winds and can be reefed. It is self-righting in the event of disaster, has a lifting plate and an outboard (that is lifted whilst sailing) to get you home against the tide if the wind drops. The Hawk carries jib, mainsail and spinnaker.
Anyone thinking of joining the Hawk fleet, would like some help in getting going, or simply wanting to experience Hawk sailing - let me know through the BSSC website or call on 07976-421053 and I will arrange the assistance required. Additionally, there are often opportunities to crew and to take part in a Hawk races or cruises again let me know if interested.
