  • Peter Beck

It is with great sadness we learn that Peter Beck who led sailing at Burnham Overy Staithe for decades had died in his 90's. Peter and Melba lived "above the shop" at Overy Boathouse and along with Lester Southerland at Brancaster, kept many of our much abused fleet of Sharpies maintained, and its sailors safe and well looked after. He organised and was involved in the Sharpie racing over many decades and always supported

  • Plenty of water for the Hawks

Last Thursday, our intrepid Swallows and Amazons were treated to a tour of the Lifeboat station at Old Hunstanton, thanks to our very own Charlie Parfitt. This Thursday will be a wet muddy creek walk - a great way to learn about where the main channel is in the harbour and the route the incoming tide takes. Full

    Bank Holiday Sailing

Sailing conditions were mixed over the weekend with fairly light winds, with the rain holding off until Monday, and even then it was only a bit of drizzle. Happy times on Musketeer Many thanks to our race officers Sam Kingston, Ed Medcalf and Matt Godbold and their assistants for some fun and interesting courses. Monday's

    Glorious sailing conditions

Sailing conditions over the weekend were so good, we didn't even need to get out of bed in the dark! Although the tides were a little on the small side, that only added a small challenge. Many thanks to our race officers Adam Anthony and Steven Wightman who both set imaginative courses avoiding the shallowest parts of the harbour and allowing us some lovely downwind kite runs. All race results

    Spring has Sprung

We had superb conditions for racing this weekend, only the time of tide could have been better. A small but enthusiastic fleet of Hawks and All-comers went racing very early on Saturday and Sunday morning. The Hawk Spring series is now underway and the 1st of the Typhoon series set the bar high with a fabulous course from Race Officer Rich Turner, we do love a long down wind leg! A

    It's getting warmer :)

The weather here is gradually warming up and we're looking forward to resuming racing next weekend, even if it is a little bit early. Just think of those delicious breakfast baps in the clubhouse after racing and the "posh coffee" machine is back in place now! We have scheduled a Safety Boat Course for 11th & 12th June. The course covers things like techniques for assisting dinghies and windsurfers, providing

    Happy new sailing season!

We've had an incredibly mixed weekend of weather here. Very early start times and high winds proved to be quite off putting for the 1st race on Friday morning. However the turnout for Happy Hour on Friday evening was extremely enthusiastic! Sailing on Saturday went ahead in glorious (if slightly chilly) conditions and our Pirates Launch Party was a big success.

    Happy Easter

Spring appears to have temporarily paused here in Norfolk. It's been very cold of late (snow on my car on Thursday morning!) but things are looking up for this week. Don't forget to check the forecast for the weekend (I like to use windy.com ). Conditions are looking favourable for Friday and Saturday, it's a bit early to tell how the rest of the weekend will shape up but there

    not long now...

The longer evenings, louder bird songs and brighter hedgerows are a great reminder that our sailing season is just around the corner. I am aware (and in awe) that we have some hardy members who sail throughout the year, but for us mortals who hate having cold hands and feet, it's almost time to unpack the sailing gear. In 17 days time (Good Friday) we could be out on the water!
