Adult RYA Sail Training Course

If you would like to improve your confidence on the water and get to know the harbour better, we are planning an Improvers course on the weekend of 4-6th May 2024. More details to follow and you will be able to buy your ticket for the course online. If you are interested please email Sarah Kemp on bsscsarah@gmail.com so we can start to plan numbers.

Adult Start Racing Course

If you would to learn to race your boat or improve your race tactics, we have courses planned for the first May bank holiday - 4-6th May 2024. If you are interested please email Sarah Kemp on bsscsarah@gmail.com so we can start to plan numbers.

Social Sailing

These events are in the sailling calendar from mid July onwards and are for those who want to get out on the water and enjoy a sail. There will be an agreed objective such as 'sail around Nod buoy' depending on conditions. A safety boat with competent instructor will accompany the flotilla ( and carry the picnic!). Sign up on the website on advance so we can gauge numbers and turn up 75 minutes before the published start time for a briefing. More details to follow.

Assisted Sailing

We aim to have a Senior Instructor on hand for the summer season to encourage and support on the water activities. If you would like to build your confidence or try out a new boat the Senior Instructor will be able to help.

Fleet Race Coaching

Following on from the sessions in 2022 we plan to offer more Fleet race coaching. These free tailored sessions are run by Level 2 Race Coaches and to improve key sailing/racing skills. They are not aimed at complete beginners. This a great opportunity to practice and meet new fleet members. Dates to be confirmed with the fleet captains.

Please contact your fleet captain if you are keen to have this coaching who will coordinate with Sarah Kemp (bsscsarah@gmail.com).

Tailored coaching/teaching

We offer 2 session types - a 6 hour 'off and on water' session and a shorter 3 hour 'on the water only' session. Instant booking available here!

Sailors will need to be qualified (or equivalent experience) to stage 2/level 2. These means they need to be able to rig, launch and recover their own boat. You will need your own sailing kit (wetsuit, buoyancy aid, etc). The training can be delivered in your own boat, or one of the BSSC boats (2000, Feva or Topper). The training content will be tailored to meet student needs and all aspects of the RYA dinghy syllabus can be covered. Sessions will be a combination of shore based theory and drills and coaching/instructing afloat. The training will be led by Bruce Kemp who is a seasoned club racer, Senior Instructor, RYA Race Coach and Advanced Dinghy Instructor.
