We've had glorious weather for the past week here but it's now turned pretty grey and gloomy. So, now that you're up to date with all the spring gardening jobs.... Here are a few things to think about in preparation for the sailing season.

Today is the official closing date for applications for sail training 2025. The glitch on the booking system for Improve Your Racing has been fixed and ticket numbers have been increased for all courses. Any bookings made after today will be placed on a reserve list. Use this link to access all the course booking pages, volunteer sign up and self declaration forms. Invoices will be sent out once the Sail Training team have approved the applications.

Charlie Parfitt will be running a First Aid course at BSSC on Saturday 12th April from 10:00. This course is specifically tailored towards sailing and is perfect for Assistant Instructors, Dingy Instructors, or any sailors taking their 1st course or in need of a refresher. There are only a few places remaining, bookings should be made online and will be confirmed on a 1st come 1st served basis.

Graham Louth will be back with us on 29th March to answer all your racing questions (including the really tricky ones).

The clubhouse will be open from 10:30 for hot drinks and breakfast pastries.

Graham will be making his presentation from 11:00 until 13:00

We will be serving up a Thai Curry buffet (made with authentic Thai curry pastes)

There will be time for free discussion after lunch and Graham will answer questions. The bar will be open for drinks after.

Please let us know by email if you wish to attend lunch and specify if you will need a vegetarian option.

Following on from Graham's Rules of racing, there will be a short break and Malcolm Collins and Bruce Kemp will be running a race officer and assistant training session. The content will be a refresher on the starting process, flags and the fundamentals of 'good' courses at BSSC. The intent is to de-mystify the process and make it fun and accessible for all. A second race officer training session will be held after sailing on April 19th.

We understand that the recent weather has turned many minds towards sailing. Please bring your boats to the dinghy park, ONLY if you have paid your 2025 membership and parking fees. You should leave your boat in the space that was allocated last year. This can be found on your 2024 parking sticker, on your membership invoice or in the "My berths / spaces" section of the members hub. Please ensure that your tyres are in good condition and properly inflated in case we need to move your boat. There is no storage space available for road trailers so you should remove these from club property as soon as possible after delivering your boat. All boats MUST be insured according to club rules.

Members on the waiting list for a parking space should hear from us in the next week or two, if a space has become available for your boat. We hope to have stickers available for collection by Easter weekend.

We are taking bookings by email for Launching supper on Saturday 12th April. The format this year will a quiz night hosted by our Vice Commodore, James Watson. Teams will be 6 to 8 people. If you have a smaller group, we will hook you up with some other players. Please email to make your booking and let us know the names of players on your team and any dietary requirements.

We have been fully booked for recent Sunday lunches, so highly recommend sending us an email to book if you can.
